WebGUI Related Questions

In what way(s) do you contribute to WebGUI or the WebGUI Community?

Our company uses WebGUI as a Content Management Framework to build advanced websites for our customers. Of course we use it also for our own website.

When did you first hear of WebGUI?

That would be in 2001 when we were looking for a content management system for our own site. I was attracted by the clear functional Perl code.

How and when did you get involved in WebGUI?

When we started to work with WebGUI for our own site, we saw the high potential for our customers. We started developing our own features.

Are you paid to work on WebGUI?

Well, our customers pay us, so that would be a yes.

How much time do you spend on WebGUI?

Our whole company is based upon WebGUI and that does not stop at home, so I think it is more then 40 hours.

What do you think is still missing from WebGUI or the WebGUI Community?

The adoption by the rest of the world. WebGUI's quality is far better than so many other systems. People should know that and start using WebGUI.

What keeps you motivated to keep working on WebGUI?

The quality of the design of the code is very good and is still evolving into WebGUI 8.

What's WebGUI's killer feature and why?

For me it is the ability to extend WebGUI with your own code using the extended API. Therefore, we can build every (even the strange) feature as the client wants it.

What's WebGUI's greatest weakness and why?

Out of the box, WebGUI is quite difficult to learn. If we can build a simple setup to learn WebGUI in easy steps, it will add to the adoption of WebGUI. We want to achieve that in the new WebGUIStarter project. We will present this before the end of this year.

What makes you work on WebGUI over the competition?

It is based on Perl and has a very good API.

What's your most brilliant WebGUI hack?

I made a downloadable Vcard from an SQL report and a snippet. (

Have you attended the WebGUI Users Conference?

I have attended all 6 of them. It is the best way to keep up.

Where do you keep your Gooey doll?

I have 1 on the bookshelf, 1 in the baby room, 2 behind the windshield of the Oqapi Smart car, and of course 1 on my desk.
