At this years WUC a group was formed to make new default templates for WebGUI. The group consists of both plain black employees and members of the international wg community. The reasons for this project and more info you can find here.

The discussion on the new templates will take place at the new WebGUI Templates Working Group discussion board, but this discussion is not open to everyone. We would however like to hear all and any suggestions you might have on making the new default templates as good as possible.

So shoot! Let us know about things we can improve. Especially suggestions for user friendliness, features and structure of templates would be appreciated.

I don't think this thread should be too much about html and css (placing this div there with class such and such etc.), but you are ofcourse welcome to make suggestions on that topic as well.

Thanks all. And thanks William for the idea for this thread.

In reply to Williams reply on CSS frameworks

The main point to learn from your example is - I think - that it should be possible to create these improvemens without having to hard-code the form.

Kind regards,

I have two comments:

  1. In addition to the goals that you posted, I would like to see the templates be fully internationalized.  They currently are not.  Please keep in mind that new templates use the International macro, and not i18n'ed template labels.  If you post bugs for small sets of i18n labels that you need, they'll be added quickly.
  2. I have no idea why you would want to create a private list where ANYONE couldn't give feedback.  The developer list isn't private, why should the template list be so?

Thanks for your input, Colin.

This is new to me, but if the International macro is going to replace all the templ var labels, it is of course a requirement.

I'm less than enthousiastic about this, though. I think I understand why this is being done, but it's just seems like a lot of complex syntax. Part of the new def. templ. project is making them easier to customize.

Can you tell me more about this. Will there be a list included in the help with all the i18n labels, so people know they can use them as params in the macro? Could you point me to the discussion about this, if any?

Because the people working on this project live in different counties/timezones and we need a place to discuss stuff without having 100 new posts everyday so sort through. You have a point though. Let me give this some thought.

I'd suggest starting with it open and only resorting to a closed list if message volume becomes a problem.
