WebGUI Related Questions

In what way(s) do you contribute to WebGUI or the WebGUI Community?

I have been the Roadie for WebGUI User Conferences since 2005. I was Mr Smith's driver to the WUC in Las Vegas in 2006. We spent the better part of 3 days traveling in my SUV both to and from the WUC stopping at many interesting places along the way to get some good photos of Gooey on the road. I spend most of my time at the WUC helping with the set up and take down of technical equipment. I am in charge of the opening and closing plenary each day of the WUC. I inform the attendees of important schedule changes, the whereabouts of lunch and, of course, where the bathrooms are located in the building. I man the front table where guests check in, switch out tapes in the recorders, answer questions (non-technical) and take photos of the conference. I get assistance with my duties at the front table from Kathy Kuskie and different members of the staff throughout the day.

I advertise for WebGUI whenever possible. I wear my shirts from the WUC almost daily. When I leave the house in the winter I wear my good WG hat and when I go for a run in the winter, or go sledding with my kids, I wear my other WG hat – I have little to no hair and always need a hat during the cooler times of the year.

When did you first hear of WebGUI?

When Mr. Smith was still developing the first versions of WebGUI, then known as Web Done Right.

How and when did you get involved in WebGUI?

I first got involved with WebGUI in 2005 at the WUC in Las Vegas. Mr Smith had a small staff at that point and needed an extra person to help with the gear needed at the conference. Thus the position of Roadie was created, and I have held the position ever since.

Are you paid to work on WebGUI?

Not in money, but I have been given some pretty cool schwag over the years.

How much time do you spend on WebGUI?

Countless hours every year at the WUC!

What do you think is still missing from WebGUI or the WebGUI Community?

Honestly, I cannot think of anything that is missing now.

What keeps you motivated to keep working on WebGUI?

The people in the WebGUI community are easy to work with, and the staff at Plain Black treat me well.

What's WebGUI's killer feature and why?

Its user-friendly interface. The new Gallery asset in WebGui that I use to post pictures is very user friendly and will save me hours of time in the future. Just recently I went to Canada fishing and I had 30 photos to upload to the site. Had I still been using the previous version I would have had to resize my pictures and upload a few at a time. The Gallery asset allows me to zip my photo files and upload them all at once.

What's WebGUI's greatest weakness and why?

?????

What makes you work on WebGUI over the competition?

Competition?

What's your most brilliant WebGUI hack?

Yet to come!

Have you attended the WebGUI Users Conference?

Yes, every year since 2005.

Where do you keep your Gooey doll?

I have 2 at work (one is on a co-worker's desk), my kids each have one in their rooms, there are one or two in the toy box, and one on the computer desk next to our copies of the WebGUI guides.
