We are working on a fresh install of WebGUI 7.4.39 using the WRE, and we can't get any images to display.  If we upload an image into a folder, it uploads correctly, has a file size associated with it, but when you try to view the image you get a "Page Cannot Be Displayed" error.  If we edit the image file in WebGUI or try to insert it into an article, it just shows a red "X" for the image and thumbnail.

Any ideas as to why the images may be broken?  We're completely stumped as to why this may be happening.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks!

After further investigation it appears that the server alias is causing the path to the extras folder to not be found.  I believe we somehow need to change the relative path to the Extras folder so that the server alias can still find it.  Any ideas??? Undecided

Have you checked your WebGUI and apache logs?

I would guess that the permissions on your uploads directory are bad.  Make sure that the apache user can read those directories.

Thank you very much for your help.  We figured it out to be an error in the modperl/modproxy settings, so we're all set now.  Easy fix that made all the difference in the world. :)

For the benefit of others who might have the same problem, could you please post more details about how you fixed it?

Sure.... In a nutshell, we had changed the serverAlias in ModProxy, but hadn't set it up correctly in ModPerl.  After we verified that both were identical, it fixed our problem.  Thanks!
