Pagination and Navigation Menus.

Hello. Just a quick question regarding a weird issue we're noticing happening with our website. We use a navigation menu that shows pedigree only from a specific page, embedded into the style template via AssetProxy. This is working wonderfully, except for when you get to a page that has multiple pagination, for example, an SQL Report. Once you click on the "Next Page" or any of ther numbered pages themselves, the navigation menu disappears on those pages.

Images broken, help!

We are working on a fresh install of WebGUI 7.4.39 using the WRE, and we can't get any images to display. If we upload an image into a folder, it uploads correctly, has a file size associated with it, but when you try to view the image you get a "Page Cannot Be Displayed" error. If we edit the image file in WebGUI or try to insert it into an article, it just shows a red "X" for the image and thumbnail.

h2 style definitions in templates

I noticed there are header level 2 style definitions in templates "Default DataForm" and "Tab Form". This is rather unusual since most if not all other assets leave definition to a site-wide style sheet. In fact, I had to remove them for my site. Is there any particular reason this was included? Should it be removed?

Limiting the size of avatars

I noticed that some users are not aware of the difference between a personal photo and avatars. Is there a way to limit the size of avatars in WebGUI? I have already added a max-width style directive to my thread template. However, it would be more powerful to resize avatars at the time of submittal. Is there a way to do this?

CSS problem in IE6

I'm working on this site: http://ishrgroup.com/whats-your-scenario There's a large "i" image in the upper right background layer placed with the CSS below. It works great in FF and IE7, but in IE6, the 'i' gets pushed to the bottom left instead of the upper right background position. I have an IE6 screen shot, but I don't see a way to include it in this message. Let me know if you want to see it. I know the opacity settings aren't supported universally, but I figured there'd be no problem with position. When I validate the CSS, I see no warnings or errors concerning position. Can you help? .bigi { 	position:fixed; 	top:10px; 	right:3%; 	z-index:1; 	filter:alpha(opacity=50); 	-moz-opacity:0.5; 	-khtml-opacity: 0.5; 	opacity: 0.5; 	}

I want to adapt the Default Submission template for the collaberation system, to slightly change how the photo gallery works. The reason for this is that I want the thumbnail not to be an auto-resized version of the main image, but a cropped area, uploaded separately. So my goal is that the user can submit to the gallery, the first image will be the thumbnail, the second will be the full-size version. The thumbnails will be used in the existing photo gallery main template, but the Default Submission template needs changing so it doesn't display all attachments in the loop, rather ignores the first (thumbnail) and just displays the second. I need to replace the attachment_loop with something to just show the second attachment, can anyone give me any pointers?

I found some code for our old Admin Bar that we had customized by using the general javascript function to build the panels and slider then if you look below you see we were using WebGUI tmpl_loops to build our own bar from scratch. The question is, does anybody know if there are temlate loops and variable available through the adminBar macro?  Thanks, Nate Custom AdminBar Template Excerpt -------------------  panel = new createPanel("adminConsole","Admin Console");     <tmpl_loop adminConsole_loop>         <tmpl_loop items>             <tmpl_if canUse>panel.addLink("<tmpl_var icon.small>","<tmpl_var title escape=JS>","<tmpl_var url escape=JS>");</tmpl_if>         </tmpl_loop>     </tmpl_loop> slider.addPanel(panel);    slider.addPanel(panel); if('^SDP_IsInGroup("Admins");') { panel = new createPanel("websitego","WebSite GO Tools");     panel.addLink("^Extras;adminConsole/small/help.gif","WebSite GO User Help","^/;help");     panel.addLink("^Extras;adminConsole/small/users.gif","My Account Information","^a(linkonly);");       panel.addLink("^Extras;assets/small/image.gif", " Global Images", "^/;root/images/");             panel.addLink("^Extras;assets/small/folder.gif", " CSS", "^/;css?func=manageAssets");         panel.addLink("^Extras;assets/small/folder.gif", " Root", "^/;root?func=manageAssets");         panel.addLink("^Extras;assets/small/folder.gif", " Templates", "^/;templates?func=manageAssets");     }

Web Preview or Thumbnail

OK, I'm developing the New version for the FathersRightsNetwork.net (previously known as www.abs-comtpech.com/frn/frnhome.html). What I am looking for is the ability to display a thumbnail preview of a WebLog that is elsewhere on the site. I also want to do the same for a 'News' section as well. Now I've reviewed the Dashboard Asset, but this practically mandates a full page presentation on the website. I would like to manage the front page assets, and then (using a two column style layout) place the preview on the left side. Can this be accomplished in WebGui?

SQLForm with unique field(s)

I am creating an sqlform for a newsletter I am sending out, where users can signup with: Name and Email I want the sqlform to check the email field in the database table , to see that is does not already exist. I tried to manually make the database field Unique (from a mysql perspective), like this: alter table mailinglist change email email char(255) unique; It works fine from a mysql view, but when i enter none-unique values, I get a server error. THe best would perhaps be for the SQLForm to check on the field attributes in the database table and if its unique, check it against the submitted data before inserting. Is there any way to do what I am trying to do? Or should I tweak SQLform to check field attributes before inserts?

CSS tweaks

I'm working on this site: http://web387.plainblack.net/ And there are a few little layout problems I can't quite iron out. The pale blue box that contains the main content extends outside the right border of the containing white box. It looks different in FF and IE, but it's basically the same problem in both. I've validated the CSS and HTML. There are a few small issues there to clean up, but nothing that would affect this issue. (the main CSS error concerns a style that is not used in the document at this time) I'd be very grateful for a peek. I'm making progress with CSS but it's not my native language. Thanks!

Putting Text around a SQL Report's Fields

OK, I am attempting to put together the necessary components for implementing Google Site Maps in WebGui.
Random Image in Stylesheet

I have to admit i'm doing alot at once right now so I apologize if there is a simple answer to this question that I'm just not seeing. Is there some way to generate a random image URL for a CSS class? I'm developing a template and I want it to have a banner that can be customized by our content managers to do one of three things: Leave as is (randomly include default images in banner from a pre-existing directory via css) Customize (upload custom images to a pre-determined directory to be included via css) Custom Randomize (upload multiple images to a pre-determined directory to be included via css) The way it works is that we have a PHP script that collects the user preferences. If the user has images in a preset directory they can choose to use their images in place of the defaults and upon choosing to use custom images they can choose to make it random or static. The problem is that the template needs to be a flexible layout. So, the images need to be set as backgrounds for a given DIV. Which in turn means they need to be set via a css declaration. As it stands now I have a default stylesheet that sets a static banner image and I'm using an inline stylesheet declaration to override the banner class if they choose a custom image. That much is easy enough, however, getting those images randomly requires 'RandomAssetProxy' which returns an image tag not a URL. So, to state the problem simply; I need a way to pull a random asset's URL into a CSS class. Any advice? -Nate

Calendar Template Help

I hope someone out there can help me: I'm trying to create a semantic small month view for the calendar. The problem is that I keep getting an error: Couldn't call method view on asset for url: offices/e/example/staging/calendar Root cause: HTML::Template->output() : fatal error in loop output : HTML::Template->output() : fatal error in loop output : HTML::Template::param() : attempt to set parameter 'events' with an array ref - parameter is not a TMPL_LOOP! at /data/wre/prereqs/perl/lib/site_perl/5.8.8/HTML/Template.pm line 2997 The real problem is I can't stop the problem loop and the loop and variable descriptions don't seem to match the variables and loop names in the templates (i.e. dayOfMonth is listed as the tmpl_var but dayMonth is the actual var etc...) I plan to post a few calendar templates based on this to the Add Ons section so any help will hopefully benefit us all. Here's the template: <tmpl_if admin> <p><tmpl_var adminControls></p> </tmpl_if> <tmpl_if displayTitle> But in Firefox or Safari on a Mac (I haven't been able to check Firefox on PC) the vertical alignment is off. It seems to be adding an extra 3 px of space below each image and I cannot figure out how to get it to go away. Suggestions? Thanks! Jody

Prequery in SQL report doesn't work?

If I use a prequery statement in an SQL report to set a variable it doesn't work. I use this variable for an asset-id, like so: set @myvar := "(some asset-id)" The SQL report does work without using the prequery. Am i doing something wrong? Does anyone else have this problem? WebGUI version is 7.4.9 Thank you in advance, Rogier

Q&A CS Formatting.

Does anyone else run into a formatting problem if they try and create a Q&A CS? For instance, if you use IE 7.x and create an answer to a question that has a paragraph/ul/paragraph, the answer ends up displaying outside of its "bounding" box (the gray border). Anyone know how to fix this? I'd appreciate any help! :) p.s.
"Tell A Friend" Problem.

I used the "Tell A Friend" instructional demo found here on our site. All works very well except for one thing. If you click on the link from one page, email the link to a friend using the data form as described, and then try the same thing on a different page, the /\Env("HTTP_REFERER"); in the body of the form still shows the old link instead of updating to the current one you are trying to email. Any ideas as to why this form would still show the old link still? I'm completely perplexed.

Full website url (macro or template var)?

In the template for multisearch I want to add the name of my website as a parameter for Google. For example: http://www.google.com/search?q=site%3Awww.sitename.com%20keyword I couldn't find a macro or tmpl_var that could give me the full url of the website. There is a macro u(); but this only returns the url that's typed in the settings in the admin console, which doesn't make it a robust solution. We also tried using Env(HTTP_HOST); and this returns the right url, but with a port number attached to it. Question: is there a macro or tmpl_var that returns the full url of the website? And if not, perhaps someone wants to write it? I think it would be a good addition to wg.

CSS conditional statement for IE

Hello! I'm trying to do some extra styling for IE6, because there are some small differences between our sites FF and IE look. I tryed to use conditional statements for IE but something is wrong. Normally a conditional statement for stylesheets looks like this: <head> <link href="/root/style/main.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" /> <!--[if IE 6]> <link href="/root/style/ie_only.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" /> <![endif]--> </head> I've inserted the stuff into our site teplates head block in WG, but it does not work, so the extra styling is visible in FF too. I checked the source of the rendered site in FF and found some differences compared to the code I've inserted into the head block: <head> <link href="/root/style/main.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" />

I'm having trouble getting these two to play nicely together. Basically, description.first.paragraph uses carriage returns in the HTML source to determine where each paragraph ends (is there a reason why it doesn't use the <p></p> tags?) However, TinyMCE seems to be stripping out all unnecessary whitespace (including carriage returns) as part of its tidy up, effectively causing the whole article to be considered as a single paragraph. How can I turn this mis-feature off.

Creating buttons for a Menu Navigation

Well, I am tasked with the conversion of a static html website into WebGui. The Website was designed in FrontPage (yuck!). The design included both a Horizontal and Vertical Menu structure which employed the fphover.class in an applet (I've never emploed this before and I am unfamilar with it's design/use). Here's a sample fo the information, this is for the menu item "About Us": <applet code="fphover.class" codebase="_fpclass" width="120" height="24"> <param name="text" value="About Us"> <param name="color" value="#B4EDA5"> <param name="hovercolor" value="#FFFFFF"> <param name="textcolor" value="#000000"> <param name="effect" value="average"> <param name="url" value="homeaboutus.htm" valuetype="ref"> <param name="bgcolor" value="#008000"> <param name="font" value="Dialog"> <param name="fontstyle" value="regular"> <param name="fontsize" value="14"> </applet> Is it possible to use this in WebGui? How do I add this to the Navigation menu, or create a New Menu layout?

Tutorial for Importing a Package?

I downloaded the Lightbox package from the contribution section here on the WebGUI site. Now, I have tried to use it on my website and am unclear as to the correct way to import a package and use it. Can someone give me a quick step-by-step tutorial for importing a package that I've downloaded from another user? I have been searching the Help and Forums and still can't find the answer... any help? Thanks in advance!

Creating a multilingual website

I'm trying to develop a multilingual website, what I mean by that is that I want to have my website display multipile languages on the same page. As far as assets such as articles go, its easy, I just created templates to wrap the articles with the appropriate <div lang=..> tags, and made one article asset for each language. This gets way harder with navigation, there doesn't seem to be a way to specify mutipile titles in multipile languages for the same asset. The solution I managed to think of so far was to put something like: "English title|he|Hebrew title|ru|Russian title|ar|Arabic title" In the asset's title field and write a macro to split it up and return the appropriate language part, to call from the templates. I can't help but think there must be a better way to do this.

Streamlining the use of templates

Is there any features or tricks I can use to streamline the use of templates. I would like to minimize the amount of user effort required (and the potential for error) in each step. I need to ensure that certain elements go into the correct content positions and that certain elements are either visible or hidden from navigation. What approaches have people used to this kind of a problem?

I'm having an odd problem with a Custom Template I've written. It contains 3 content positions but after placing items in their positions and then refreshing the page they will jump randomly to a different position on the page.
Same template everywhere *but* the homepage

A fairly common site design pattern seems to be to have a well-laid-out template with pretty side (and often also top) navigation menus, and a content well, into which your page content goes. Except on the home page, which breaks all the rules. It has been a while since I did any WG site design, but I remember that the page template defaults to being inherited from whatever page you make a page a child of, when you create it. So, is there no way to leverage that default if you want to make your home page something different? Or do I just misremember where that default comes from? (Clearly, if your page tree is more than one level deep, this is only an issue on subpages of the homepage, but that's often a sizeable set as well...)

Photo Gallery

Hi! I'm using CS to make a photo gallery and I faced two problems I cannot solve. First I can't figure out how to sort the attachments alphabetically. Second I attached around 200 photos to a post, and it seems the system can't handle that much image. When I hit save it starts to work, it works for a while then gives an error message: Proxy Error The proxy server received an invalid response from an upstream server. The proxy server could not handle the request POST /home/newfolder. Reason: Error reading from remote server After refresh I can watch the post, and all the images attached, but with a little error. At around the 160th image, the thumbnail goes away, and the rest is shown with default thumb size. I'm also a bit surprised that I can't set the max amount of attachments shown per page, but all imagethumbs are listed on one page instead. Any comments, suggestions, solutions are welcome! Thanks for reading.

Serial number in email

Hi, Is it possible to have a unique and running number in emails? We have a website where visitors can come and register for a free event. We are using the data form for this with mail data on. Works very well. We need a unique and running number for each email sent out so that the visitor can bring the email to the event and get the pass to get in. We thought of using the ID for each entry but it is too long and very hard to key in. In version 5 the ID was very simple and easy. As it starts with 10001. Is there some solution for this? Please advise. P.V.Anthony

Synopisis length (aka - creating press release archives)

Quick question, how can i adjust the length of a synopsis? Say I'm creating a blog or a press release system in a collaboration system...I want the synopsis to be either a certain teaser text or at the very least longer in length.

If you develop your styles in Firefox (and you should) then there are two extensions that have proved themselves to be invaluable: Web developer toolbar Firebug These should provide you with a lot of power to understand the workings of your pages and allow you to more easily develop styles that will work with WebGUI.

Navigation Unordered List (XHTML STRICT)

Anyone have any pointers about how to get an unordered list with multiple levels to work? Our current template is: <ul class="indentedNav"> <tmpl_loop page_loop> <li class="level<tmpl_var page.relDepth>"> <a href="<tmpl_var page.url>"> <tmpl_if page.isCurrent> <span class="selectedMenu"><tmpl_var page.menuTitle></span> <tmpl_else><tmpl_var page.menuTitle></tmpl_if> </a> </li> </tmpl_loop> </ul> This won't be truly semantic though, as the list elements at level 2 won't be children of the navigation element ahead of them. Thanks, Matthew

General CSS changes?

I understand how to make changes to the CSS of a template, but I can't figure out how to make more general, overall changes. For example, I'd like to change the format of the "Preformatted" and "Address" tag (which can be selected in the Rick Text interface when posting to a collaboration system). Also, something seems to be wrong with bullets. When I set text as bulleted it completely disappears from view. The HTML is still there, but nothing is displayed. Where do I control all that formatting?
