I added a caroussel and was not able to reproduce your bug statement. I do have another wre btw.

Do you use a default template? What are the steps you take during adding?

I am using the Underground style template, but I have not made any changes to the carousel template (this combination worked with 7.7.32).  I go to Admin, click on carousel, then add the items and click save.  The bar with the arrows and the item indicators shows up, but the items themselves do not show.

Can you tell us more about how this all came about?

Was the carousel on the site when you went through the upgrade, or is it new?

Have you always use the Underground style, or is new as well?

The carousel was on the site on version 7.7.32, and I was using the Underground style.  After the upgrade, the carousel didn't display content anymore.  I could see the gray bar with the arrows and indicators, but no content underneath.  I removed the carousel and added it back, and I got the same results.  I even tried changing the style back to a WebGUI style, but I still had no content on the carousel.  I'm running the WRE on a Debian 5.3 system.

I tried viewing the content with IE7, IE8, Firefox, and Google Chrome.  Everything else besides the carousel works.

Thanks for looking at this for me - I really appreciate your time.

More questions:

When you upgraded to 7.8.14 from 7.7.32, did you upgrade to 7.7.33 first?

What kind of content did you put in your carousel?  Text, images, both?

I did not upgrade to 7.7.33 first.  I used the /data/wre/sbin/webguiupdate.pl and the /data/WebGUI/sbin/testEnvironment.pl scripts to upgrade, and I took the defaults with them.

The original had text and images in it.  When I deleted and re-added it, I tried just text, just images, and both.

That could very well be the problem.  Please restore your site from a backup, upgrade to 7.7.33, by hand, then you can use webguiupdate.pl to upgrade to 7.8.14.

I will give that a try.  Thanks!

I had problems with the manual upgrade, so I ended up wiping the server, reinstalling Debian, reinstalling the WRE, and running the testEnvironment.pl script to get everything loaded again to the current stable version.

The carousel still didn't work, but I noticed that now I could see the very top of the information when I clicked the arrow buttons.  I ended up putting about 15 blank lines after my content on the first item, and I am able to see the content with Firefox and Chrome, but I still can't see it with IE.

I uploaded a picture of what the carousel looks like under IE.

Which IE, on which OS?

IE7 on Windows XP (I tested with that becuase I'm using WebGUI to redesing our intranet, and that combination is what the vast majority of the company is using.)

Update:  I edited the Default Carousel template and added "height:375px"  to the <li class="item" section and it displayed correctly.

Can I modify the "Edit Carousel" -> "Display" tab to include a variable for carousel slide height, or is that something that will have to be modifed in a future release?

Normally, this would be a feature release.   However, the carousel clearly doesn't work right with IE7 on XP, regardless of the style, so it's pretty clearly a bug.

If you want to contribute a patch to fix that, it would be welcomed and released in the next stable version of WebGUI.  Otherwise, we'll get to it as soon as possible.

Added a height property to the Carousel.

Fixed in 7.9.9 (e66be2a)
Fixed in 7.8.24 (7cedb14)
