Duplicate Version Tag Created.  (#11336)
Issue

Hello!  I've run into a strange issue that is happening when using IE8 (doesn't appear to happen with FireFox).  When I first log in and make an edit in some way to create a new version tag, a duplicate version tag is created with the same change I just made.  Any subsequent edits made in the same session are added to the version tag you're working in but not to the duplicate tag... only appears to be the first edit you make.

To replicate this consistently (using IE8), make a duplicate of a Style Template and you'll instantly see two new version tags with the same edit.  Any additional changes you make will show up in one version tag only.

Any ideas as to why this is happening?  Thanks in advance!

~Eric

Is your site setup for autocommit?  Does it skip, or require commit comments?

Also, on what platform are you using IE8, Windows 7, Vista, XP?

Thanks for getting back to me.  The site is not setup for autocommit.  We need to commit the tag manually and have the option of adding comments if we wish.  We are also using IE8 on Windows XP when this problem occurs.  Thanks!

I set up XP on a virtual machine and installed the latest IE8, and I can't duplicate this bug.  Here are the steps I took:

Started with a clean site on 7.7.30.
Logged in as Admin
Turned on Admin mode
Edited the first article on the page
Went to the Display tab.
Hit the edit button next to the style template.
Clicked on the "Duplicate and edit" link.
Made a trivial change to the style template.
Hit save.

I ended up with only 1 version tag.  I checked this in the Admin Bar, and in the Manage Pending Versions screen.

Are you up to date with all the IE8 and XP upgrades?
How is IE configured?

Thanks for your reply.  We are currently running 7.7.29 for WebGUI.  IE8 is Version 8.0.6001.18702 and XP is running Version 2002 Service Pack 2.  Hope this helps.  Thanks again.

That's the same build of IE8 that I have, but I'm on Service Pack 3.   That means a good thing to try would be upgrading your computer to SP3 as well.

Does the problem happen with Admin as a user, or some other user?

It's happening when I'm signed in as a typical user.  Your steps to duplicate aren't exactly the same as the ones I was following.  Upon sign-in, turn admin on and go to the Assets list in the Admin Console.  From there, check a box next to an article or page, and then select "Copy" at the bottom of the list.  This will produce two version tags when this is done.  "Duplicate" will also produce the same double Version Tag.  Thanks.

Ah, I see.  Wrong duplicate.

When I used duplicate in the Asset Manager, I did indeed get multiple version tags, although there were a few times when I didn't.

Ah ha.  Well I'm glad to see that I'm not cracking up.  :)  It is a very strange issue.  Thanks for investigating.

Added JS code to the form submitting buttons in the Asset Manager to prevent the forms from being submitted twice by IE8.

Fixed in 7.7.32 (7e33dd3)
Fixed in 7.8.12 (fb3211a)
