Hi, I'm JT and these are my thoughts on community, content management, Plain Black, and WebGUI.

For a long time now I've known that we don't have any good low end or mid range hosting options for those people that want their own WebGUI server. Some people just want access to the box, and some have security aversions to being on the same box with other sites, and others want to install their own plugins. So there are many good reasons to have your own server. Unfortunately, until now we haven't had the technology to offer anything in the low and mid range servers.

Starting next week we will be offering WebGUI Virtual Private Servers (VPS). A VPS is a very large physical hardware server that has been subdivided into smaller parts, each with their own operating system, provisioned RAM, and provisioned hard drive space. So it basically enables us to sell partitions of a server.

Each of our WebGUI VPS will be running CentOS (a free derivative of Red Hat Enterprise Linux) with a 2.4 ghz intel processor (the physical server actually has multiple processors). Also, each will be fully managed, monitored, installed, and patched by Plain Black, and each will come with an online support package. You'll have full root access to each of these as well.  These are the options we'll have available:

Option 1 - $150/mo

Option 2 - $275/mo

Option 3 - $400/mo
  • 2GB RAM
  • 80GB drive space (75GB usable)
  • 1GB bandwidth per month
This new system makes the jump from regular virtual hosting to private server hosting more realistic for small and medium sized organizations. We hope you'll take advantage of these new options.

Yes, though there will be different backup amounts available for each VPS level. The amounts will be published to the site along with the plans as soon as we are ready to launch.

Unfortunately, I had forgotten about a trade show that PB is appearing at in two weeks, so the launch of this new service may be delayed a bit depending upon how busy my staff is preparing last minute details for that trade show.
