At the WUC I announced that the Plain Black staff will be having RFE (Request For Enhancement) days several times a year where we knock off as many RFE's from the top of the list as possible. The first of these RFE days is tomorrow (Tuesday, September 16).

I'd like to encourage the community at large to join us. The more people working to close RFE's the faster everyone will get the features they want. Even if you're not a programmer, you can work on RFE's. Here are some ideas on how everyone can help.

If you're a programmer, then you can probably just implement an RFE. Even if you don't have commit rights you can attach your code diff to the RFE and we'll have someone review it and apply it for you.
If you have commit access then you can review the code other people have submitted and push that into the repository if it's acceptable. Or reply to the author and explain why it's not acceptable if it isn't.
If you are a designer, you can work on template changes that people have asked for. There are lots of these.
No matter who you are, you can go through the RFE list and look for duplicates. Link them together by putting a URL reference in the comments to the other duplicates. Also, if you notice some RFE's that have already been implemented, but never closed, then reply to the RFE that it can be closed, and someone with the rights to close it will do that.

The goal of the RFE days is to close as many RFE's as possible, however, quality is always better than quantity. So please don't take shortcuts or apply band-aids.

The Plain Black staff will be on IRC all day tomorrow as we're working on RFE's so that we can help each other and you with implementing RFE's . If you have a question that is not RFE related, I'd like to ask that you please hold that discussion until after the RFE day is completed. The more non-RFE chatter that goes on in IRC tomorrow, the less RFE's we'll get to implement. Also, please note that you should post your RFE's to the RFE List, not to IRC.

Our first RFE day is drawing to a close. Only about an hour left, and so far we've closed a healthy and respectable 3 pages of RFE's! Granted, some of those RFE's had already been implemented and we just neglected to close them. But we also added a whole lot of new features from the top of the karma RFE list. The community should be happy. And those of you who don't think your karma is valuable...this should show you otherwise!

And don't forget, we still have two more RFE days left for the 7.6 release.

One more note. Thank you to those of you in the community that were also working on RFE's today. Thanks to the Plain Black staff for an amazing effort. In all we closed around 90 RFE's today. That's a great effort.

This is awesome! Although we couldn't participate this time due to other commitments, the results show that this decision to create an RFE day has been vastly successful. Looking forward to the next event.

Lovely! Now that WebGUI has a donation asset maybe you want to create one on webgui.org for RFE day afterhours? I would like to pay for the first round (no kidding :)

participated in the first RFE day. But that is probably impracticable
since you guys are spread over the whole globe. So let us start with the
PB team, if you like.

Even the PB team is spread all over. How about we create it as a fund
to sponsor a party at the WUC?

A party is fine. Another possibility would be to use it for annual user awards. Whatever you prefer.
