Well folks, the Photo Gallery I promised in my speech at the WUC and in the recently published road map is officially finished and checked in to subversion.

If you're capable of checking out subversion versions of WebGUI, or nightly builds you should give it a try. We need some feedback as we finish our spit polish on it.

We'll be putting out the first WebGUI 7.5 release in the next 4-5 weeks so you can take a look at the new features in all their glory. We'd put it out now, but there's a new upgrade system on the horizon, so I want to get a feeling of how long before that will be ready before I decide an official first release date for WebGUI 7.5 (beta).

In related news, we're working on an iPhoto plugin for the new Photo Gallery so that you'll be able to publish photos to the gallery directly from iPhoto if you're on a mac. Unfortunately the volunteer we had working on the plugin has other things to do so development is stalled. If you're familiar with Objective C and would like to help out, please drop me a line. Likewise if you'd like to write a plugin for Adobe Gallery or Google Picasa so that people can upload directly to the photo gallery, please let me know that as well. We're probably also going to write a Perl script that can import photos into the gallery remotely using the same web services that we're publishing for iPhoto et al.

The gallery code checked into subversion has a complete test suite, and stubs for the forthcoming video plugin. The video plugin is a ways off yet, but will hopefully be available in the first half of this year. We're still deciding on which player it will use, the options we're considering so far are the JW Media Player and FlowPlayer.

In the mean time check out the road map for pictures of what the photo gallery will look like. That's all for today.

pretty cool! I suggest a "Photocast" link so iPhoto users (command-U) can subscribe to galleries, other PC and web apps are photocast compatible as well.

Does the new Gallery asset have the email feature of Collaboration Systems? It would be nice to be able to send photos from the iPhone, just like .mac gallery.
