As you probably know, WebGUI has supported static HTML exporting of content for many years. This is usually used in environments where WebGUI is just an editor for content, rather than the publsiher of it.

Starting with WebGUI 7.5, WebGUI offers fine-grained control of which assets are exported. Upon requesting to export an asset, WebGUI checks the asset's parents for exportability. If each of the asset's parents are exportable, the asset itself is checked. Presuming the asset's parents and the asset are all exportable, the asset (and its parents) are exported.

By default, assets are not exportable. In order to change this, the WebGUI administrator must edit the asset. On the meta tab of the asset's edit page, there is a new "Is exportable?" choice. Set this to 'yes' for the asset you want to export, and all of its parent assets. Then continue exporting as usual.

This new feature should help ensure that you won't export the things that you don't want to export. For those that use static export capabilities, this unleashes a whole new set of possibilities.

Is anyone using the built-in static export functionality in WebGUI to export an entire site? From what I can gather, this feature only supports exporting a single asset at a time.

Indeed, the wiki page that explains how to export a site suggests using wget and noone has posted alternative solutions for exporting an entire site. This makes me wonder who will use the new fine-grained support that has been added.

If you are using WebGUI to export an entire site, please share how you do it in the wiki for others.

Thanks,
William

There are a few orgs and several hundred sites I know of that use it to export an entire site. There are three ways to export static content beyond wget. There's generateContent.pl in the sbin folder. There's the export link under the more menu in the asset manager, and there's the export workflow activity. Though I'll leave someone else to write up the wiki page about them. I believe these are documented in the content managers guide, but I'll check with out doc writers and get them into the next version of it if not.
