Like to be able to schedule a start date/end date for a page to beposted. I asked about this in the forums, and it seems that thisfeature used to be there, but no one seems to know where it is. Someone else suggested that you have to create a work flow.

Creatinga workflow for each page I want to post at a specific date seems to bea lot of work, and I don't want content managers to be modifying workflow.

The start/end dates should be on the properties of the page layout.

Thanks!

I'm on the fence here. I see the benefit of being able to set an asset to display at a given date (say an article on a page) and also see the power of using a workflow to set a group of changes to post at a specific time.

My initial thought is to add a Schedule button in addition to the Commit button on the Version Tags screen. There would need to be some interface modifications to let user know that a Tag is scheduled for release at a specific time. Also, you may want the option to lock down further changes to that tag or allow ongoing changes until it publishes.

A bit of descriptive text below the tag on the Versions Tag page and in the Admin Bar would probably be sufficient. The biggest need is making it easier to schedule a set of changes for publication.

Oh! I like that idea knowmad, That to me makes sense. That way you can approve it, but it wont' go live till the post date. That's a nice compromise.

I see that there is some hesitance in doing such thing, maybe if there is a wiki about how to create/and or modify a workflow to accomplish the same thing, would help me, because i find that whole system a bit confusing and scary. I'm just glad that the default ones work. =)

Knowmad's plan approved. I'll set difficulty now.

I, too, can live with the approach knowmad suggests.  Karma applied.

One followup thought:

One thing which I, at least, will want to use this for is "the holiday/event version of the front page", and in that situation, you'll want to *go back to the pre-change* version after a specific date, as well as changing *to* the special version on a certain date.

Hopefully the implementation of this feature, when it happens, will take that into account.

I don't necessarily care for baylink's suggestion unless the revert is a copy of old as a new version increment. It's the same as I've been talking about go-backs. But I know, it doesn't apply to this RFE.

Well, I sure hope it does; cause it doesn't actually do me any good otherwise.

To be clear: I'm just as happy with an implementation that says "enter a start date, on which the tag you're about to start working in(/have just approved) will be released for public view.

If you enter an end date as well, then we'll take a snapshot just before we release the tag, and release *that* for public view as of the end date."

Or something like that.

Any implementation that lets me pre-program "this is the Christmas Day version of the home page" will accomplish my personal goals (and, I'm sure those of many others, though I can't cite them :-)

You can already do what you're asking baylink because you just design the workflow to set a new schedule to delete this version tag. Or you could request a "timer" workflow activity that will stay active for a set period of time, and you could build it that way. Either way though it has nothing to do with this RFE, it's all about how you build out your workflow.

IOW: once I get back from this business trip and have the spare scratch to buy the Admin manual, all will be revealed to me.

I can deal with that.  :-)

I will say though that I think the situation I enumerated is probably a pretty common use case, and having a way to set both dates in the same place when you do the pre-event setup work is likely to prove pretty handy for keeping the power-induced complexity from overwhelming site workers.

IMHO.
