Random sort order for collaboration systems  (#623)
Issue

Recently, I opened a thread on how to display images picked randomly from all over the site. I noticed that my approach does not work until a random sort order becomes available for photo galleries. Therefore, I would like to ask for this feature in future releases.

After they're in the collab system, would the RandomAssetProxy not work for this?

Sorting randomly is INTENSELY inefficient, and the CS itself is already pretty slow, so I'd be very surprised if this was approved.

An external solution, a custom SQLReport or some other sort of Report would be a better solution.

Request denied. Using CS for photo galleries is no longer recommended. As of 7.5 the Gallery asset replaces this functionality. In addition, adding such functionality to the CS would be slow and useful only to you.

I posted to your thread to use Shortcut. And what you figured out was one way to use the Shortcut, but there's a better way that doesn't require content profiling. However, this isn't a support board.

The RandomAssetProxy is good for picking the thread. However, I cannot override the template any longer. I already tried. Overrides set in the shortcut asset do not work.

But would it be possible to extend the RandomAssetProxy such that it takes a template as the second argument?

Fine. Is it possible to patch the gallery asset from 7.5 into 7.4 or are there incompatibilities? If not, will it be possible to migrate CS photo galleries to the new gallery asset once released?

Ok. Can I find the way you refuse to mention in the Content Managers Guide?

There is a script that will be released to convert CS based galleries into Gallery assets.

As I posted out in your original thread yesterday, I was mistaken. Now that I read what you want to do, you cannot use Shortcut to achieve it.
