Is it possible (or, I suppose the more accurate question would be "how difficult would it be") to implement a Captcha validation/auth field in the standard data form, similar to the one used in the anonymous registration?
Addition was briefly discussed with Nik in the Support forum: http://www.plainblack.com/plain_black_support/captcha-in-data-form

Yeah, my data forms keep getting flooded by spammers!
A captcha is really needed.
Spam is crippling our ability to collect any kind of feedback from our visitors.
I think that using captcha anywhere in WebGUI would be a good help for letting people (not automated processes) input data into WebGUI.
I would say: don't implement it as a dataform option, try to find a way to use it anywhere in WebGUI where data is entered by people.
Actually, people that are logged-on don't fall under that category. So it is about people that are not known to the site allready.
This is related to this one.

I would like captcha to be an option everywhere there is data entry
