WebGUI Related Questions

In what way(s) do you contribute to WebGUI or the WebGUI Community?

I make things purdy. I work on design-centered projects for Plain Black.

When did you first hear of WebGUI?

I am one of those people who was there in the infancy of WG back when JT and I worked together elsewhere. He was always working, developing, outside of work hours. I swear that man is part machine! He and Eric use to make thrones from the Mountain Dew cases they emptied (can you say caffeine!).

How and when did you get involved in WebGUI?

JT planted a bug in my ear a few times. He wanted me to come and help make things pretty. My position elsewhere began to slow and he asked again. Timing was perfect. So May of 2008 I came aboard.

Are you paid to work on WebGUI?

Yes. Proudly.

How much time do you spend on WebGUI?

I am a PT employee so 20-ish hours a week.

What do you think is still missing from WebGUI or the WebGUI Community?

Prettiness. It isn't ugly, but it needs some pretty-fying. Specifically, the user interface could use some upgrading, as well as the styles/themes available - we need more for users to choose from and an upgrade on the designs as I don't think that has been done in a few years. We are starting to work on this and that has me even more enthused!

What keeps you motivated to keep working on WebGUI?

The constant state of evolution. I am a proactive person and love working with a proactive community and CMS. That and I want this CMS to be beautiful so there are no deterrents for other designers when they are trying it out.

What's WebGUI's killer feature and why?

It is hard to choose! But as a designer, I love templates; the customizability. And these are only headed in a great direction for designers with the Template Working Group's scheduled improvements.

What's WebGUI's greatest weakness and why?

As I noted, the visual appeal in several departments is a weak link in the eyes of this designer. And making WG even more intuitive for designers would help break a barrier I feel is currently there.

What makes you work on WebGUI over the competition?

JT – he's a mastermind and also very proactive, as well as the rest of the awesome partners WG has. Great leadership only means good things for the future.

What's your most brilliant WebGUI hack?

Designer here. Hack is a rather foreign concept to me. But, I did work up the new webgui.org site design. I was pretty pleased with the results and hope you all feel the same.

Have you attended the WebGUI User's Conference?

Yes and learned so much!

Where do you keep your Gooey doll?

When my kids aren't kidnapping him, he hangs out in my office.

Personal Questions

How would you describe yourself?

Always positive and proactive. Not good at saying “no”. Like to try and fit everything possible in, as life is too short! I am not one to sit idle, unless utterly exhausted. I am not a morning person. I wish I were. Sleeping in is a waste of time, but I can't drag my butt out of bed early. I hate that I love my snooze button.

Are you married, dating, or otherwise involved?

Married.

Do you have any kids?

Two girlies. 10 and 6.

Do you have any pets?

Yes, an oooooold German Shorthaired Pointer (dog), who can't hunt worth a darn. Good family dog though. But rather gassy in his old age (need to note that as he lays here in my office with me... Pfew)

If someone visits your area, what's something they must see or do?

Flyfish/Canoe/Kayak/Hike along the Kinnikinnic River

What do you hate?

When my brain goes all A.D.D. on me.

What do you love?

My life. I have very few complaints.

What's the last book you read?

Such a Pretty Fat

What's the last CD/MP3 you bought (or downloaded)?

Keep in mind that I have two daughters. I can't believe I have to admit that I bought the Miley Cyrus CD. But I am buying the new KISS album for my husband's stocking stuffer... does that make me any less lame? I suppose that just makes me OLD. =P

What's the last movie you watched?

Theater: Paranormal Activity DVD: A Christmas Story... I triple dog dare ya!

You're stuck on a train/plane for 6 hours and bored out of your mind, what do you do to amuse yourself?

Plane, drug myself and watch the inside of my eyelids. (I hate flying. The closer to unconscious the better.) Train, read or pull out the ol' laptop.

Any last words?

I don't suffer from insanity. I enjoy every minute of it.
