I was hoping someone could help me or at least point me in the right direction.
I would like to use the Who's online macro to allow my users to see who is online, and then to be able to instant message that member online.
How can this be done?
What chat program would be best suited for this?
Also how could one in general take a logged in username, and then output into an http proxy of some kind of chat program, so that once a user was logged into my webgui such as "john doe" they could then be brought into a chat room as user "john doe"?
How in general could variables such as usernames of those logged in be outputed to an external Perl program?

I guess it is not exactly what you want, but there is the ShortChat wobject. Earlier versions had some basic Jabber functionality built in.
If I would do it I would probably make a custom macro or wobject that called an external program with some parameters like username and IM-address.
All that is quite easy to extract from the DB.
Any chat program I guess is up for it, but there are some easy to use Jabber modules for perl.

Thanks, again. Have you ever used this Wobject. I'll check it out,

I wrote it, but it doesnt work for the newer versions of WebGUI yet, and the Jabber functionality is removed since i thought it bloated the thing too much.
I'll post an update in an hour or so. I would apreciate any patches or request for enhancements.
