I have had the 0.8.3 WRE running on windows working with the 7.4.x WebGUI and that's fine.

I'm trying to get 7.5 to work with the WRE on this nice OS.  I've upgraded the perl modules as listed in the source WRE 0.8.5, but with WebGUI 7.5, I can't get it to serve up the example.com pages without a 500 server error.  I can run 7.4 with this fine as you would expect.

The log for mod_perl shows this error

Can't locate auto/Apache2/Request/dir_config.al in @INC (@INC contains: /data/WebGUI/lib C:/data/wre/prereqs/site/lib C:/data/wre/prereqs/lib . C:/data/wre/prereqs) at /data/WebGUI/lib/WebGUI.pm line 63\n

The 3 questions I have are

1) what is it complaining about, the webGuiConfig is present as before.  Is this due to the windows version not using preload.perl

2) I note the WebGUI.pm changes a lot between the 7.4 - 7.5 releases.  Am I wasting my time in trying to get webGUI to work on windows, in that it is now impossible.  (I don't mean just unsupported).

3) I note there was some fixes for windows in the never release binary for this platform for wre 0.8.4.  Is this version in any form available from somewhere ?

I missed the discussion on withdrawing windows support, earlier and I must say am disappointed with this. Cry I have absolutely no intention of using the horrible VM version.

If I can get a working wre for windows and 7.5 to work I will upload somewhere.

Well it works fairly well with the new Xammp (1.7.0) install with apache2.2 following the source install of WebGUI instructions.  Obviously no seperated mod_proxy server with that.

Add in an install of ActiveStatePerl 5.10

Install mod_perl and missing perl modules then it runs as per the source install WebGUI instructions with the only need to comment out the #PerlCleanupHandler Apache2::SizeLimit which seems to not work to well.  This using preload.perl on WebGUI 7.5 latest.

I will have to look at the wre setup and maybe move the Apache up to 2.2 level and try again.

May I ask whether you just do not like the appliance available? Or is it
rather because you do not like virtual computing at all? If it was the
first, we could possible improve the existing appliance or create an
alternative one...

From past experience I just don't like virtual appliance computing.  I've not tried your version so I've no idea what it is like.

I prefer to develop my software on windows as that's where my prefered IDE is.  I've run my servers on a nix source install from version 5 onwards.

I've only ever used the wre on windows, which after early versions did work well, even on an old laptop I had, having tried to install an early version on the nix box to no avail early on.   One thing that the wre could add in and would be needed on my machines is php.  So it can support sites running other software.  I know not what webGUI needs to support!  Wink
