I've seen alot of info on installing with the sever version of 7.10. But can't find anything about normal Ubuntu. Does WebGUI work with standard Ubuntu? I'm fairly new to Ubuntu and just found WebGUI and am looking to try it out but having problems with the install. If someone could point me to a guide to installing on standard Ubuntu 7.10 that would great. Or any advice.

Thank You.

I can see that currently there is no WRE for Ubuntu 7.10 but perhaps the 7.04 version will work.

Are you using a desktop edition of ubuntu (I cannot find anyting on ubuntu.com about a standard edition)? Perhaps I can compile you a WebGUI Runtime Environment so that it will work for you.

Another question I have is: are you sure WebGUI is the thing for you? Did you allready have a look at the demo version?

Sorry about that. Yes I mean Desktop version. I was trying to say "not server version".

I've tryed the Demo for Windows XP. But I'm not interested in running WebGUI on Windows. I need it for my laptop which is running Ubuntu 7.10 Desktop. I didn't even try to download the demo for Ubuntu yet because I can't install programs like these on Ubuntu without a guide or tutorial. I'm still learning and working on installing much simpler programs at the moment.

I will download the Demo for Ubuntu and see what happens. I belive WebGUI is for me. But I would'nt want to waste your time.

If I get the Demo working I'll get post more info. If not I'll be back sooner with questions.

Thank You.

Edit: To clear up any confusion. I'm just trying to learn WebGUI right now. When I feel I've got it down, I'm going to download WebGUI for Ubuntu Server version. I'll do this at the same time I upgrade my existing server to Ubuntu 7.10.

Installing with the "Desktop" version of Ubuntu would be the same as installing it on the "Server" version of Ubuntu.

Put simply: The "Desktop" version is just the "Server" version with the addition of X.org and Gnome (the "ubuntu-desktop" APT package).

Can it be installed through the Gnome GUI? Or should it be installed through command lines with Terminal?

Installing WebGUI on any linux version is for a large part a terminal based setup and not something to take lightly.

If you have no experience in using a linux shell and setting up server programs I reccomend asking for (professional) help in setting up WebGUI.

If you do wish to try yourself, prepare for a steep learning curve and take a lot of time to learn.

The 7.04 version worked easily for me on Ubunty 7.10. Unfortenately, spectre doesn't start. Due to a lack of time I have not yet investigated further what the cause is.

Other than that, if you follow the instructions on the wiki, and are a little bit adept in using the terminal, it's actually quite easy in my experience. Running it professionaly for hosting a website is of course a completely different thing. But that's the case for any system.
