Is there anyone in the community that has expertise in Section 508 Compliance? I'm curious how we will test to ensure we are compliant as development progresses. Kind regards, Diona ---- |

Although I am by no means an expert, I did find this resource, which may be a good set of guidelines to keep in mind over the course of the project: http://www.rampweb.com/Accessibility_Resources/Section508/roadmap.asp |

Hi Diona,
Section 508 obviously does not apply to projects here in Australia, however we do have equivalent requirements that need to be satisfied for government projects. I will post details when I get my hands on them. Regards, Patrick On Tue, Sep 9, 2008 at 10:03 AM, <diona@knowmad.com> wrote:

Patspam, I'm definately interested in other govt guidelines because it will open up opportunities for adoption. However, my question about Section 508 is largely due to the fact that this is a selling point for WebGUI. It's part of the existing marketing material probably largely due to the fact that WebGUI is used for US govt projects. We're going to be changing templates and I want to ensure we are not removing this benefit from WebGUI. Additionally, I'm not a Section 508 expert. I've read the requirements many times and, while I do understand a lot of the standards, I still do not fully understand every one. I'm open for enlightenment. For instance, as we move to more AJAX focused interfaces, I know that graceful degradation will be required. However, I don't understand the complete impact of "Equivalent alternatives for any multimedia presentation shall be synchronized with the presentation." It would be best to automate the test for Section 508 but I don't have the expertise to know how this could be done. If we could run an automated test for this standards requirement, we could ensure standards are met without human review. Diona ---- |
