My installation runs on WRE 0.9.3 on a CentOS 5.2

I have quite a large website with lots of data, while upgrading from WebGUI 7.6.31 to WebGUI 7.7.19 the upgrade fails at this step:

Revert use packed ...

It doesn't print anything afterwards not even the newline character, i.e the command line returns just after '...'

I tried running the rebuildLineage script but this didn't fix the problem.

Any suggestions ?

You can't upgrade from 7.6.31 to 7.7.19.  First, you must upgrade from 7.6.31 to 7.6.35.  Then you can upgrade from 7.6.35 to 7.7.x  If you did not do this, then restore your site from the backup made before the upgrade and follow those steps.

If you did that, then the next thing to think about is that that particular step in the upgrade can take a very, very long time, since it touches every asset in your database.  On large sites, it could take 15-20 minutes, just for that one upgrade step.

Lastly, always, always, always check your webgui.log file.  For an upgrade, it would be a good idea if you set the log level in /data/WebGUI/etc/log.conf to INFO, or DEBUG just to get every logged message to help with debugging.
