I have a new installation of Webgui 7.7.28 on Debain 5 system.

If I goto 'Tell a Friend', fill in the form and 'Send'  I get the acknowledgement page, but no e-mail is sent and no error message.

I can do a telnet localhost 25 and get a connection and similarly to the domain SMTP server.

I can send e-mail using command line mail to the address of the friend.

I tried changing 'SMTP Server' settings to localhost, 127.0.0.1 and the host name and IP of my domains SMTP server all to no avail.

Where is the connection between the generated HTML:

<form action="/tell_a_friend/tell_a_friend" ...

and the code that's supposed to send e-mail?

I'm seeing nothing in /var/apache2/error.log, webgui.log or anywhere else! I see some similar old posts, but can't find any clues.

Did I miss something?

TIA

Is spectre running?

perl spectre.pl --status

returns:

Suspended Workflows 0

     Waiting Workflows 0

     Running Workflows 0

         Total Workflows 0

Both before and after the 'send'.

Even if it's running, a restart might do the trick. Oh, but do the messages arrive in the inbox of that user on the site itself? (put ?op=account;module=inbox after the url after being logged in)

A Spectre restart at what stage in the procedings?

Oh, but do the messages arrive in the inbox of that user on the site itself?

Why would I want to 'Tell a Friend' already registered ?

sorry about the inbox mention.

I have seen some hanging mail. By restarting it, the mailQueue might get processed.

Did I ask the wrong question?

The URL in the generated <form action="....." obviously won't send anything! Because err... it's just the URL of my form!!

Perhaps I should ask, how do I put something in a 'Data Form' objects URL that will?

As a last resort I just went to plainblack demo site and tested 'tell a friend'.

Sure enough, that does not work either!

So I ask again how is it supposed to function? So I can have a go at debugging it!

Specifically:

Which perl module is supposed to send to the SMTP?

How does the 'Mail Form' template, or any other for that matter, evoke the said perl module?

TIA

Mail from the demo site is disabled to prevent spamming.

What does:

cd /data/WebGUI/sbin; perl spectre.pl --test

say?

perl spectre.pl --test

says:

ERROR: Spectre cannot communicate with WebGUI. Perhaps you need to adjust the spectreSubnets setting in this config file: vale.com.conf.
Tests completed.
