Currently, viewing pending assets is done by passing a URL query param (revision=1234567890).  This works for some situations, but not all.

For example, suppose the asset you want to see is in the trash.  From the manageRevisionsInTag screen, it will take you to the trash, but not list the asset since you are not the user who deleted it.  If you click on System Trash, it kicks you out to the Page Not Found screen, since the query parameter is not propagated.

This happens very frequently with moderated discussion boards with Spam filtering, since the spam filter will throw it into the Trash.

The general problem, though, is that the query parameter is not forwarded on.  WebGUI already has a mechanism that allows people to view pending assets, and it works very well.  It's Version Tags.

If, from the manageRevisionsInTag screen, the user was joined to the pending version tag, they would be able to surf the entire site and perform all operations.  After reviewing the pending assets, they can commit the tag from the Admin Bar, or from the manageRevisionsInTag screen.

Comments, questions, scathing rebuttal, or long-lasting silence, denoting quiet approval?
