Hi,

I've ported the plebgui branch to the HEAD of the webgui-7.10 branch so
that 7.10 now is potentially usable under plack. I did this by rebasing
the plebgui branch onto the 7.10 branch and resolving the (amazingly
few) conflicts that arose. Also I've fixed a couple of things to remove
the need for any of the Apache2::* and APR::* mod_perl stuff.

Now, I would love to push the new plebgui branch so more people can
plack a recent webgui up, but I don't know how. I've always understood
that rebasing remote branch is a Bad Idea, because it will screw up the
local checkouts of downstream contributors. What's the approach I should
take on this? Should I do this at all?

Please note that the stuff in the plebgui branch was experimental to
begin with, and this does not change this fact at all. Also, as I
rebased it onto the HEAD of the 7.10 branch, you don't get a release
version of WebGUI. Rather you should install it development style
(import perviousVersion.sql into your db and then run upgrade.pl).
Nevertheless, it works (with lots of thanks to Patrick Donelan who
created the whole plebgui thing to begin with)!

Nice!
Given that it's an experimental branch, I think rebasing is probably fine (unless PB has a general policy against it). I actually prefer rebasing where possible. Anyone downstream can rebase their changes onto the new branch tip easily enough.

I think I succeeded! What I did was checking out v7.10.24, creating a new branch, plebgui-7.10, from that, merging in the plebgui branch and fix some stuff up in that thing. Now there's a plebgui-7.10 branch (as well as the old plebgui branch) and I tagged the 'release' with plebgui7.10.24.

If people are trying it out, I'm quite interested to hear what they think.

And please, don't forget, it's EXPERIMENTAL!

Have a nice weekend,

Martin

Hi everyone,

Tijdschrift Ei ("Egg Magazine"), a Dutch online art magazine, went live last wednesday. To my knowledge, this is the first ever PlebGUI production site!

I think that's pretty cool. And so far, it's working great. We ran into quite a lot of small bugs, and a couple of large ones, but almost everything is fixed now.

Many thanks to Martin, whose hard work and hacking skills made it possible. And thanks to Patrick for his brilliant idea!

For the Dutch WebGUI community (or anyone in the neighborhood): the launch party is tonight in Amsterdam, so come and say hi!
