Managing multi language represents the bane of my life. Surely there must be a system that minimises the toing and froing between what is essentially the same system. How does this system stack up?

Well, there has been done some work on internationalisation. At the moment you can have the system language in multiple languages for different users. But the only included languages are English, Spanish, German and Dutch.

If you want content in multiple languages, there are some tools in the add-ons:

http://www.webgui.org/bazaar/getsessionlanguage

http://www.webgui.org/bazaar/macro-picklanguage (this is actually included in the distribution I believe)

http://www.webgui.org/bazaar/languagepageswitch (this switches to a page with the same content in a different language, if setup properly).

But if you want to set that up, it still requires some planning. I have done some work for an American non-profit organisation and might be able to help. That was mainly an adoptation for the last link I provided. There was also once a presentation from the user conference, but unfortunately I saw it was removed.

But I can't say whether these tools actually supply what you need or want.
