I have made a few modifications to the VM available at:  http://www.webgui.org/download

Why?

I wanted to test WebGUI8 in a sandbox that would not affect any of my other WebGUI installations.

If you would like to test WebGUI8 by using this image please follow the outlined steps below:

  1. Download and install VM player capable of running the WebGUI8 image.   Windows:  http://downloads.vmware.com/d/info/desktop_end_user_computing/vmware_player/4_0
  2. http://cluster.slowass.net/~webgui/WebGUI8.zip
  3. Unzip WebGUI8.zip to your favorite directory.
  4. Open the uncompressed file from step 3 by using the VM player software downloaded and installed in step 1.
  5. Edit your hosts file (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hosts_%28file%29) to include the following entry:  webgui.mywebgui.dev  ip_address_you_saw_when_logged_into_webgui_vm_console
  6. Login to the webgui8 VM console and edit /etc/hosts to make sure 127.0.0.1 also points to webgui.mywebgui.dev (you may want to download putty and login to the address displayed in the VM console during login)
  7. In the WebGUI vm edit /data/WebGUI/etc/webgui8.conf  replace the entries "cookieDomain" to ".mywebgui.dev" and "siteName" to "webgui.mywebgui.dev"
  8. Open your browser by using the url http://webgui.mywebgui.dev
  9. If you don't do steps 5-8 you will be able to login as admin but may loose your session during site navigation (logged in as the "Visitor" user).

Good luck and let me know if this helps.

Thank you for putting this up.

Unfortunatley I am not able to download from the following link.

http://cluster.slowass.net/%7Ewebgui/WebGUI8.zip

Would anybody have an alternative link?

http://cluster.slowass.net:5999/~webgui/WebGUI8.zip works at the moment.  Sorry about that, everyone.  I saw this right as I was getting settled on Amtrak so I can't walk over and kick it.

Unfortunately it doesn't run on a (my) Linux vmplayer, since this
doesn't provide "Auto-Logon", which isn't available for Linux.

My desktop is Fedora 16 32bit. Using VMware Player 4.0.2 build-591240

I did have a problem with VMware Player initialy. Got a patch from the internet. If you need the patch, I can pass it on.
