Hi,

We are a video editing company. When doing projects there are many emails going between the client and the editor. If the editor goes on leave or falls sick, we get freelancers to come in to continue the work. But the problem is that there is no documentation of what has been done or what needs to be done or even what has been disscussed. One way is to get the original editor to forward all the emails to the freelancer but that is tough.

So we were thinking of using the forums. Unfortunately our clients will not use the forums. They prefer emails. We are not suprised.

WebGUI forums has the email retreval feature which is great. We tested it out and it works well if the email is to the forum, then the forum sends it to the subscribers. So it will follow the thread. If a new email is sent, then a new thread is created. If there is a reply to the email, it will be under that thread. All that is working great.

Now for the question. Can this same behavior be done for carbon copy (cc) email? The editor sends an email to the client with a "cc" to the forum. Then the client replies to the email with the "cc" to the forum. The forum keeps that reply in the same thread.

We did some testing but it creates a new thread for every "cc" email. Is there anything we can do to keep the replies of "cc" emails in the corresponding thread?

Unfortunately no, because of the way e-mail message IDs work. When you send an e-mail to the collaboration system, WebGUI sends out another e-mail with a message ID. WebGUI uses this message ID to identify replies and add them to the appropriate thread.

So in order for it all to work properly, you need to reply to the e-mail that WebGUI sends, not the e-mail that the user sends.

It would be possible to make it work for CCed e-mail, but that's a new feature and would have to wait for 7.9 to be forked.

Thank you for replying.

If it is something simple to do, how much would it cost to implement it into a copy of the "message board" widget. Let say we call it "message board2". So that we could use it for now then when 7.9 is out it could be incorporated in the original "message board" and all can use it.

Just an estimate will do. We need to know if we can afford it.
