First of all will SQL form be phased out or will it remain in WebGUI? Secondly Vision wise what is the main differences in practical can do/can not do scenarios between sql form and thingy.

Have you read The Black Blog about the Thingy? Have you read the roadmap for WebGUI 7.x? From the Black Blog post I would deduct that the SQL form will not be 'phased out' since it has a different focus than the Thingy. But I think it is a good question, since it is labelled 'beta' now. The answer to your second question is quite clear from the Black Blog post: Thingy is 'easy' and requires no extensive knowledge of sql or templating and such. SQL form is not 'easy' in that way.
