I am planning to sell a digital product from my WG site but payment and affiliate tracking etc. is via another ecommerce site paydotcom.com (it handles the paypal and they have an affiliate system). Once the purchaser has paid, I can configure the ecommerce site to send them to any url - e.g. a thankyou page where they can download the product. It would be nice to be able to send them back to my WG site to pick it up and stay there, instead of some other site. My fear is that people will publish the thankyou/download link and take the download w/o paying. Is there a way to send someone to a standard hidden page URL in WG that somehow quickly redirects to a unique download page that expires or allows just a few downloads? Any other suggestions would be appreciated. There are php/mysql products out there to handle this sort of thing, but I'm not sure if that would be allowed or even possible to integrate on a hosted WG site. Thanks, Peter --- (Edited on 3/28/2006 9:42 am [GMT-0800] by peterkoning) --- |

I use DLGuard (http://www.thetoolwiz.com/HotPicks/DLGuard) for this. They just started shipping V2.0 last week, and it handles free products. The point with that is it allows you to collect payments elsewhere and then use it to handle the downloads. I just launched something yesterday, and we've got over 250 people registered at one site and downloaded through DLGuard in the past 24 hours with no problems. I've been using DLGuard for about a year now, and it is hands-down the one app that you absolutely want to have if you're doing online electronic fulfillment. You can also let it handle the payments if you want. Since PDC doesn't handle StormPay now, they only deal with PayPal. And DLGuard can integrate into PayPal and about 8 other payment processors. DLGuard also now handles membership signups if that's helpful. (The only reason to use PDC might be for affiliate processing, which DLGuard doesn't handle.) Frankly, I've got users complaining because they're getting too many signup requirements: one at the sales page, one on the payment page, one at the download page, one for something else, and one for my WG-based support site. I'm trying to figure out how to let one of those insert a new user record into WG's database and eliminate that. Of course, none of them work with LDAP. Does anybody reading this happen to have a little php script already written that I can use to insert new users into my WG database (V5.5.7) from another site? --- (Edited on 3/29/2006 3:03 pm [GMT-0700] by digloo) --- |

Hi Digloo thanks for the reply. re dlguard yes I was looking at that. I have a hosted at PB webgui site but also a separate linux/php hosting account. I was thinking I would have to stick it on another linux site and handle the downloads from there. How would it integrate with webgui? Re the other question I don't have an answer either but do share the same concern as I have a newsletter signup and then the subscribers "get to" register via hidden login page, and create their webgui account - it's the only way I could get people on an opt-in list (aweber). I wish there was also a way to somehow feed webgui with a name + email + temp pswd so that they are automatically registered for my webgui site. DLGuard's only real restriction is that the download files and scripts have to reside on the same server/domain where DLGuard is installed. I don't see this as a limitation, but rather as a security feature. I use it from one domain to support sales on various other sites. It'll even work for eBay auctions! It's really simple. If you're going to use it with a payment link, you'd just put the payment link on your WG page. If you're taking the payment some other way, put the DLGuard ThankYou script link on the Thank You page or email that's sent out. You'd probably need to set up the URLs for where to send the user upon completion that would get the user back into your WG site, but that's easy. It's really very flexible. BTW, the latest version of DLGuard will also let you submit an email to your AR if it will accept it. (EMailAces does; I've heard that AWeber might, but they're REALLY strict about things.) What version of WG are you running? --- (Edited on 3/29/2006 4:05 pm [GMT-0700] by digloo) --- |
