How do I set a collaboration system (set up as a forum) to order threads by the date of last reply? So that threads that are 'live' and being used, with the newest replies, are at the top? I must be missing a setting as it's not much use any other way. The forum templates can show the last replies with the dates, so how do I order by that. --- (Edited on 16-12-2011 12:02:11 [GMT+0000] by xootom) --- |

In the display tab I have a "Sort by" drop down menu. Be sure to also have the ordering descending or ascending, depending on the settings you desire. If you don't have that setting: which WebGUI version do you run (the one I checked is 7.10.23) do you have your UI level set to guru? maybe that is hiding the field (haven't checked whether that is actually a wg feature --- (Edited on 20-December-2011 13:47 [GMT+0100] by bartjol) --- |

This however sorts the threads and not the posts in it. Right? --- (Edited on 2011-12-20 20:59 [GMT+0100] by martien) --- |

correct, but I believe that is not what xootom asked: "How do I set a collaboration system (set up as a forum) to order threads by the date of last reply?" --- (Edited on 21-December-2011 11:01 [GMT+0100] by bartjol) --- |

martien is right, sorting by threads shows the latest threads at the top, but this is the creation time of the thread itself. What forums usually do is bounce older threads that have new posts to the top - without this, the forum stagnates if the volume of posts is fairly high. As the collaboration system template has access to its latest post details, I wondered whether we could sort on this date rather than the thread creation date. --- (Edited on 21-12-2011 10:27:24 [GMT+0000] by xootom) --- |

This forum, the etcetera forum, does show it threads in the order of which thread has the most recent reply. Bart described how to do that, in the Display tab, you set the "Sort By" field to Date updated, it will sort them by the revisionDates of the posts. This is due to a convenient side effect that the containing Thread is always updated whenever a Post is added, to increase the number of replies and other fields. --- (Edited on 12/21/2011 8:42 am [GMT-0800] by perlDreamer) --- |

that was not the point. xootoom asked for posts of a thread in a creation/revisiondata descending order. I tried to fiddle out such sorting like --- (Edited on 2011-12-21 20:24 [GMT+0100] by martien) --- |

I don't think it does, I'm just looking at etcetera now and the top-most thread 'Site location' has last reply 17-12-2011 @ 23:40:05, but this thread is the next one down and has last reply at 21-12-2011 @ 19:24:41. So it should be that 21 Dec is above 17 Dec? --- (Edited on 21-12-2011 21:33:15 [GMT+0000] by xootom) --- |

I think the fact that we're seeing different things is more indicative of the problem. When a CS is sorted, it sets a stow variable that is never cleaned up. One of us is probably seeing the results of that. I'll go and compare the CS sorting options from the display tab, with the sorting options from the thread and post list and see what that turns up. --- (Edited on 12/22/2011 9:56 am [GMT-0800] by perlDreamer) --- |
