Something interesting to watch..Google just released "Chrome Frame" which embeds Chrome into IE as a plugin. If you visit http://demo.webgui.org/demo1253671624_520 you'll see an ordinary wG demo site. If you look closely you'll notice an extra meta tag in the HEAD block: <meta http-equiv="X-UA-Compatible" content="chrome=1"> If someone visits the site in IE with the plugin installed, the <meta> tag triggers the plugin to use the Chrome rendering engine instead of IE's own broken engine. There's a sample page at http://demo.webgui.org/demo1253671624_520/home/trigger-download showing the JS that can be used to prompt the user to install the plugin. And a test page at http://demo.webgui.org/demo1253671624_520/home/canvas-example that uses the <canvas> tag which should only work in HTML 5 browsers. It works in IE after you've installed the plugin. The plugin still feels rough around the edges, but would be interesting if it caught on! Patrick |
