When I added a new flash banner advertisement to CMSmatrix.org, I noticed that the banner would show up in the rotation, but was not linked to the URL field that I specified.

I figured that the flash file would probably need to be linked inside the original flash source file. I checked another (existing) flash banner in the rotation and my hunch was correct.

However, I also noticed on the other flash banners that ONLY the impressions were being calculated and not clicks.

This is a problem since we allow people on CMSmatrix to purchase advertising campaigns in clicks. But, we have no way of tracking how many have been used when they send us a flash banner. This also poses a problem since most advertisers interface with me on a weekly basis and want updates in their impressions/clicks stats so they can follow along with their campaign.

I'm not sure I'd consider this a bug but after talking to Steve/Vrby, I'm not sure what else can be done if the functionality is based on an internal link in the flash animation.

JT brainstormed this question and in about 30 seconds came up with a way to accomplish tracking clicks on rich media advertisement banners. The way it's done is to make the flash banner link to the following URL in WebGUI.

http://www.yourdomain.com/?op=clickAd;id=XXXX

Note: XXXX is the advertisement's ID.

So, this has to be done in the source flash file before it's uploaded to the WebGUI Server. This link is that same URL that would be generated (and clicked on) if WebGUI was handling the a static banner ad.

So, you link it to the URL above, which points back to WebGUI, registers the click, and then sends the visitor to the URL that's located in the URL field in the advertisement's settings.

So, this can be done! Thanks for the help on this JT!
